King of None

I am 24 years old and one thing peculiar about me is that I want to do a lot of things in life. Meaning I am not able to focus on any one activity that I want to pursue. Probably, it is because I have no real talent. I can sing informally at a party. I can dance in a group. I write. I paint once in a while - whether they are good work is of course open to interpretation. Can’t say I set the sets on fire but I act, I model and I can walk the ramp. I can be a strategic planner.

Why I say that I don’t have real talent is that I don’t excel at any of these things.

The reason for that, as one wise, old sage (he’s only 30 but behaves like he is no less than a wise old sage) pointed out is that I am scatter brained. I don’t have the ability to focus on what I want. Well, that causes me to believe that I don’t know what I want in the first place. What I do know is that I love to dabble in ALL these things.

And there is more I want to do! I want to learn Spanish... I want to learn to play the guitar…i want to learn pottery...

Guess I'll have to settle for being king at none.

my dear 24 yr old,

i guess, as long as you are happy with not excelling in A particular field, its absolutely fine...as long as it doesnt create an unrest in your system.

and, there is talent in your writing style, which got reflected in a few of your previous posts like the auto-rickshaw one.

cheers!

Hi........
even if you don't count my comments ( i kinda like commenting, but i don't excel in that too! :)) is that i also " feel the same". I like to do many things at the same time, but in reflection may be am mediocre..
but there are some who are 'kanjoos', beware...they will lick even a single drop of motivation and smile.........

Hey.........then think abt dreams, sing abt them and make it happen :)
i wouldl like to see that strategic planner :)
well u do excell in smiling loads, making others smile, anyone can have a decent conversation with u, u make ppl happy basically i know u excell in making all around u happy and contented. that i believe is the ultimate thing one can do and excell in.
cheers babes.

in depth! You know though smile can forever keep u masked...u may feel u are a master of none..and yet a jack of some...but what you may not realize is the lack of want to belong to what you could be a master at...versus the other... (read and please delete)

there are 'want' phases and 'reflection' phases. the 'want' phases pull you to be the jack of all trades - so if you have the ability to sing and when there's an occassion, you'll sing, similarly, you'll walk the ramp and so on.. when you are reflecting on the overall things, you'll also feel like wanting to be the master of one.

the bottomline (as the wise guy has commented) is that if its not really bothering you, then its not worth bothering about :)

remember, if and when you choose to focus on one particular thing, others will automatically be blurred in the process. its therefore upto you to choose!

Come to think of it, there aren't many people who can claim to be masters of whatever hobby or profession they pursue. And when they do, they tend to become 'limited' in their personality. Thank god you are surrounded by 'jacks' and don't need to feel lonely. I think you are infinitely wiser than the wise guy who questioned the ability of your brain to focus. Open your mind and grab every opportunity you get to try out new things and you will have so much more fun! Who needs kings anyways.

hi pooja,

only thing that i can say you.....is... you got to be true to yourself...if you do so...you will definately find a single path...or the real art that actually exists in you.

cheers!

Hi its better, not to become a king or queen...
once a king, the attitude for learning is lost most often....
Keep the spirits..go on with more blogs on bringing back smile on everyone's faces :)
